These were a real hit, especially served along side an "Irish breakfast" fry up.

I never thought I’d be making baked beans from scratch, but after tasting a homemade version, I knew I wanted to try creating my own.

Inspired by Nagi’s Heinz-style baked beans recipe, I’ve been experimenting with dried haricot beans and a smooth tomato sauce and I used a vegetable stock, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and sweet paprika, with less brown sugar for my dad.

The beans are soaked overnight, I used my slow cooker and used the “keep warm” setting, which really reduced cooking time the next day.

I then gently cooked and then simmered in the sauce until everything becomes rich, smooth and glossy.

If you make these baked beans, let me know what you think in the comments below, it’s always lovely hearing how a recipe turns out in someone else’s kitchen.
